** Kentucky police arrest EMT’s assailants
** South Africa’s Eastern Cape upgrades EMS

** Kentucky police have apparently apprehended two men who attacked a pair of Bullitt County EMS workers last month. That is the word from the Courier Journal (Charlie White/May 11) which said the duo was taken into custody yesterday. The pair are also suspected of raping and beating a 23-year-old woman. William Jesse Cochran, 22, has been tagged with first degree assault and robbery for assaulting EMT Martha Corbin. Jonathan J. Mattingly, 21, has not yet been charged.

** In an effort to upgrade struggling EMS services, the Eastern Cape Health Department is infusing R40 million into the system. The Bua News ( Athandwa Mbola Tshwane/May 10) said the money will be used to hire 40 per cent more staff which amounts to about 600 positions. In addition, funds will be placed towards purchasing ambulances and other related vehicles.
