** A Maryland man has been indicted on gun charges after shooting and killing a paramedic/firefighter sent to help him last April. That is the word from ABC7 (July 14) which said Temple Hills resident Darrell Lumpkin was given the thumbs down by a Grand Jury yesterday. According to the news site, Lumpkin faces no tags in relation to the death of Prince George’s County medic John Ulmschneider. Lumpkin killed Ulmschneider by firing through the door of his residence when the former was doing a welfare check on him. Lumpkin successfully claimed self defence as he said he feared the practitioner was actually a home invader. At the time of the incident, Lumpkin was not legally allowed to own a gun.
** A Lee County, Florida paramedic faces grand theft charges after allegedly stealing medications to use to harm his estranged wife. NBC 2 (Nestor Mato/July 13) said Scott Standley was taken into custody Tuesday for pilfering the prescription meds, including nitroglycerin. According to the news site, Standley’s wife Violeta learned of the dastardly plot after speaking with the woman she thought was her husband’s girlfriend. The woman, however, said she was Standley’s stalking victim and feared for Violeta’s safety. Following a police search of the Standley’s former Fort Myers home, authorities found the drugs, as well as needles and syringes. All had apparently been taken from the county’s EMS organization. Pending the progression of the case, Standley is currently out on a $5,000 bond.
