** Second South African EMS crew attacked in Eastern Cape in four days
SOUTH AFRICA NEWS
** For the second time in four days, another Eastern Cape ambulance crew has been attacked. That is the word from R News (Marc Jacobson/April 14) which said the crew were held by assailants armed with knives and guns. According to the newspaper, the duo was attempting to attend a diabetic patient around 4 a.m. when they were assaulted and their wallets stolen. The incident is in the same place as a similar attack against EMS personnel on Sunday. As a result of the two beatings, a health department spokesman said removing prehospital coverage from the region in question is being considered. Coverage could also be restricted to daytime hours or only when police escorts are available.
