** Volunteers with The Honor Network in Alabama will be hosting a memorial service today for the victims of the March 26th Haynes Air Ambulance crash. The Dothan Eagle (Lance Griffin/March 29) said the ceremony, which will follow the form of military services, will take place at Troy University at 11 a.m. The commemoration will honor the lives of flight paramedic and Chilton County resident Jason Snipes, 35, Montgomery flight nurse Stacey Cernadas, 38, and Eufaula pilot Chad Hammond, 29. Patient Zachary Strickland, 27, of Enterprise will also be recognized. Haynes Ambulance Chief Operating Officer Kirk Barrett said his company was touched by the gesture. Barrett also said all flight operations have been suspended until further notice.
** A Philadelphia paramedic will be cooling his heals in jail for the next 8 years after admitting to following a casino patron home and robbing him. That is the word from NJ.com (Kevin Shea/March 29) which said Waner A. Segura, 29, copped to the April 8, 2015 incident which occurred as he was on duty and in the ambulance. Though it remains unclear if he was driving the rig or not, Segura and his partner Jahyquiriz Ramos, 27, were both charged in the incident. Both were employed with American Ambulance Services at the time. Under a plea deal Segura pleaded guilty to second degree conspiracy to commit robbery. In exchange, he must serve 85 per cent of his prison sentence without parole. Ramos, meanwhile, is set for a pre-trial hearing next week.
