** Indiana working at legislation that would make off duty attacks on paramedics, police, and other public safety officers a hate crime

** Indiana legislators in Indianapolis are working at creating legislation that would make attacks on off duty paramedics, police, and other public safety officers a hate crime. That is the word from Fox 59 (Deanna Albrittin/August 2) which said the proposed statute is being put forward by state Senator Jim Merritt. Expected to be drafted by next year, the proposal is tricky because charges could only result if off duty attacks were undertaken by people aware that their targets were actually uniformed personnel. In addition to actual hits on public safety officers, the potential bill would also pertain to assaults on the families of such officials.
