** UK medic sent to jail for nearly 3 years for fraud

UNITED KINGDOM NEWS

** A former Exeter paramedic will cool his heels in jail for the next 2 ½ years after being convicted of filing bogus overtime claims. The BBC (July 11) said Andrew Spencer, 37, was convicted of fraud x 3 and perverting the course of justice. According to the news site, Spencer claimed 4,772 pounds in illegal reimbursement by forging his manager’s signature. Once the jig in Exeter was up, he then went to work EMS in Essex where he was arrested. Prior to appearing in court, however, he unsuccessfully tried to dodge the issue by forging a hospital letter indicating his young son was ill. At sentencing, the court heard Spencer’s deceptions were committed while under a suspended sentence from November 2015 for also defrauding his former employer, Flybe.
