** A former US Army medic in Maryland, working at Aberdeen Proving Ground’s Kirk US Army
Health Clinic, faces up to a decade in jail for allegedly stealing 90 computers from the facility. The
Baltimore Sun (October 30) said Rising Sun resident Brian Lee Long, 48, entered a guilty plea
Wednesday to the charge of theft of government property. According to the newspaper, Long took
the computers from a logistics warehouse between October 1, 2014 and December 31, 2014. Officials
estimate he sold 19 laptops and 4 desktops at a pawnshop, netting him some $18,400. A further four
laptops were sold to a third party who himself pawned the items. The computers in total were
valued at $40,000. Long is set for sentencing on February 12.

** A Preston man has been sentenced to 10 weeks in jail after being found guilty of sexually
assaulting a female paramedic while in an ambulance October 10th. That is the word from the
Lancashire Evening Post (October 31) which said Patrick Sharpe, 40, will also be placed on the sex
offenders’ register for the next seven years. According to the newspaper, Sharpe attacked the female
medic after calling the ambulance when he had fallen off his bicycle. Both agitated and aggressive
throughout the transport to hospital, he escalated matters when he inappropriately touched the
female practitioner. Once at hospital, he fled the scene. A short time later, police arrested him and
charged him with sexual assault. The tag also meant he had breached both a community order and
a conditional discharge related to alcohol offenses.
