** A US Army medic in Clarksville, Tennessee remains in a Nashville hospital in critical condition after
being attacked October 4th by a fellow soldier who also killed a 2-year-old child. That is the word
from The Columbus Dispatch (October 16) which said Brandon Jimenez, 22, is recovering at
Vanderbilt Medical Center. Jimenez and the shooter were both assigned to duty at Fort Campbell,
Kentucky. The deceased child has been identified as Joseph Bankston. The relationship to Jimenez
is not known. According to the newspaper, Hopkinsville, Kentucky resident Zackery Alexander, 21,
has been charged with criminal homicide in Bankston’s death and wounding in the case of Jimenez. He
was taken into custody last week.
** January 20th has been set as the sentencing date for a former US combat medic convicted of
robbing a bank in Eugene, Oregon. The Register-Guard (Jack Moran/October 15) said Jace Heney,
29, pleaded guilty Wednesday to the November 2014 theft, claiming post traumatic stress disorder
as a mitigating factor. According to the newspaper, Heney stole $1,800 from the Oregon Community
Credit Union after demanding the amount from a bank teller via a note. He was arrested after police
made a bank surveillance video public that captured his image. Heney told the judge his 3 year stint
as a combat medic in Iraq caused him to self medicate to erase the trauma. He said he is now clean
and works in construction. Because the bank was a federal facility, he could face up to 2 decades in
jail if convicted.
