** A pre-trial hearing has been set for September 4th for a Kentucky EMT charged in the 2014 driving death
of a 14-year-old teenager. WKYT (August 7) said former Barbourville medic Kevin French pleaded not guilty
Friday to tags accusing him of being intoxicated behind the wheel of the ambulance when the crash occurred.
According to the news site, French was driving the EMS unit on August 14th when he lost control of the
vehicle on US 25E. The EMS unit hit three boys on bicycles, killing Samson Callender. Following the accident,
police tagged French with second degree manslaughter, second degree assault x 2, and speeding. French
remains free on a $10,000 bond.
UNITED KINGDOM NEWS
** A London street party gone bad Saturday resulted in paramedics and police being pelted by bricks, bottles,
and garbage cans. That is the word from from The Metro (Cari-Ann Taylor/August 9) which said the 11:40 p.m.
fracas involved some 400 people, some of whom were wearing masks. According to the newspaper, police
were initially called because of a noise disturbance complaint in Hackney, East London. Upon arrival, however,
projectiles were tossed and street fighting ensued. When EMS was hailed, police were forced to attempt to
protect medics as they treated patients. An area search found a knife, but no arrests have yet been made. A
public appeal has also been issued for information on the incident.
