** Funeral services held for former Texas paramedic killed in train/parade float crash

** Dog who killed female Illinois EMT euthanized

** Funeral services took place Saturday for a former Amarillo, Texas paramedic who died November 15th in Midland when a train struck a parade float carrying wounded veterans. Newswest 9 (November 19) said the service for Joshua Michael, 34, who was a sergeant with the US military, was held at Amarillo’s Cornerstone Church. According to the newspaper, Michael is being hailed as a hero for saving his wife’s life by pushing her off the float before the impact. A veteran of two tours in Iraq, he was the recipient of two purple hearts. He leaves behind a wife, a son and a daughter.

** A dog believed responsible for killing a female Illinois paramedic/firefighter November 12th has been euthanized. That is the word from the Daily Herald (Harry Hitzeman/November 21) which said the 140 pound bull mastiff was put down last week. According to the newspaper, the six-year-old attacked and killed Big Rock medic Dawn Brown, 44. A new pet to the home, the mastiff had been in the care of animal control since the attack. Two other dogs residing in the home were also apprehended but will be returned to Brown’s husband. Authorities said they remain uncertain as to what caused the mastiff to snap.
