** Colorado police deputy charged after breaking teen’s jaw during ambulance ride

** Los Angeles police investigating after ambulance heist leads to fatal shooting

** Colorado police in Adams County have fired a deputy who clocked a restrained teenager in an ambulance. 7 News (Deb Stanley/August 1) said David Morrow, 28, was terminated for the July 12 incident after being charged with child abuse. According to the news site, Morrow hit the 15-year-old after being called to attend on a house party that had gotten out of hand. While entering the ambulance to retrieve his handcuffs, Morrow allegedly struck the intoxicated and verbally abusive youth with a closed fist as he lay on the stretcher. The boy suffered a broken jaw in the incident.

** The Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office in California is investigating after police shot an ambulance thief inside a church Saturday. The Contra Costa Times (August 1) said Christopher Moreno, 38, died at a Boyle Heights church after hitting it and barricading himself inside. According to the newspaper, Moreno had seized the ambulance while being transported between the Twin Towers jail and a local hospital. After attacking EMS responders in the private unit, he took over the vehicle around 2:30 p.m. Some two and a half hours later, shots rang out from within the church. Moreno stabbed a police officer during an attempt at arresting him, but was himself gunned down shortly afterwards.
