** Combat medic stationed in Hawaii dies in Afghanistan

UNITED STATES NEWS

** The main suspect in the beating of a California paramedic is now in a San Diego prison serving a ten month sentence for parole violations. That is the word from Fox News (June 27) which said Giovanni Ramirez, 31, began his stint in state prison Monday. According to the newspaper, Ramirez’ time in the clink involves weapons violations unrelated to his attack on EMS responder Bryan Stow, 42. Stow, who suffered brain damage in the March 31st incident outside Dodger Stadium, continues to recover in a San Francisco hospital. He is now able to breathe for himself and follow basic commands. To date, Ramirez has not been charged in the attack. A second suspect remains at large.

** A Harrisonburg, Virginia combat medic, stationed in Hawaii, has been killed in Afghanistan. The Richmond Times-Dispatch (June 27) said Spc. Levi Nuncio, 24, died last Wednesday in Kunar when his unit was attacked by small arms fire. According to the newspaper, Nuncio was on his first combat deployment after joining the Army in 2009. He had already received two Purple Hearts and the Army Commendation Medal.
