** Nevada air traffic controller under scrutiny after air ambulance crew unable to contact him during landing sequence;pundits say he fell asleep

** San Francisco Giants and AMR raise $70,000 for beaten California paramedic’s medical care

UNITED STATES NEWS

** An air traffic controller at Nevada’s Reno-Tahoe International Airport is likely in hot water after being somehow unavailable to assist an air ambulance during an early morning landing yesterday. Mynews4 (April 13) said the 2 a.m. incident played out with the EMS plane, believed to have been a Piper Cheyenne twin engine turboprop, landing on its own safely after unsuccessfully attempting to contact the tower. Airport president/CEO Krys Bart offered little comment on the suggestion the controller had fallen asleep, saying only the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is now investigating the matter.

** Fundraising efforts to help pay medical costs for a Santa Clara, California paramedic, severely beaten last month at a baseball game, have paid off, with current tallies sitting around $70,000. That is the word from the Associated Press (April 13) which said the San Francisco Giants made the total public Tuesday. Money gleaned came from a joint Giants/American Medical Response silent auction at AT & T Park Monday, as well as a $10,000 donation from the team itself. Other private fundraising efforts are also ongoing. The recipient of the funds, medic Bryan Stow, 42, remains in hospital in a medically induced coma. A $150,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of suspects in the incident has been offered.
