** Head of New South Wales Ambulance Service resigns

** 9th Annual Paramedic Competition set for April in Ontario

AUSTRALIA NEWS

** The head of the New South Wales Ambulance Service has turned in his resignation. That is the word from ABC News (February 14) which said Greg Rochford will take up a post with the Flying Doctors Service. Rochford, who has been the state’s head of EMS for 12 years, will begin his new position in March.

CANADA NEWS

** Paramedics from across the country are likely gearing up for this year’s EMS event in Ontario. The 9th Annual National Paramedic Competition will take place April 9th at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology in Oshawa, Ontario. A collaborative effort of the Durham Paramedic Association, Durham College, and the Lakeridge Health Base Hospital program, the event’s slogan this year is “Excellence through Challenge.” The one day competition includes both a practical and theoretical component;props, human actors and the Laerdal SIMMAN patient simulator add to the reality of scenarios. Teams from Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia and the Canadian Armed Forces are expected to take part, as are a team from the Netherlands and several from the US.
