** Toronto EMS team that won international competition gets nod from city’s mayor

** Coworkers of Florida EMT who died suddenly rally to help her son

** A group of Toronto paramedics got a public nod Tuesday, when the city’s mayor congratulated them for winning an international EMS competition last October. The Toronto Sun (Don Peat/February 7) said the team, which took first place at the Dutch Open Ambulance Competition, consisted of ACPs Don Reid, Jennifer Shield, and John Klich. The trio competed with 30 units in Harderwijk, Holland. EMS Chief Bruce Farr was also on hand to add kudos. Farr retires at the beginning of March.

** Coworkers of a female Lakeland, Florida EMS responder who died unexpectedly last week are rallying to help her surviving son. The Ledger (February 7) said Polk county EMS toilers are holding a Saturday fundraiser to collect money for a college fund for EMT Sandra Groover’s teenager. Groover passed away suddenly last Friday;the cause of death is not yet known. Along with a car wash, bake sale, and barbecue, the event will also see a motorcycle rally.
