** Remains of former New Jersey EMT return home from Afghanistan to solemn reception

** 2 Ontario paramedics set to depart to aid earthquake ravaged Haiti

** The body of a former Bordentown, New Jersey EMT turned soldier returned home Thursday from Afghanistan. The Times (Erin Duffy/January 21) said the casket carrying the remains of US Army Spc. Benjamin Moore was escorted from Dover Air Force Base in Delaware by fire trucks, ambulances, and police motorcycles. Passing by a makeshift tribute of two fire trucks brandishing an American flag, the procession also journeyed through a crowd of emergency workers lining the streets to pay tribute. Moore, 23, died January 12 after his unit was hit by an IED. Stationed out of Fort Drum, New York, he joined the Army in 2009. During his time in Bordentown, he worked as both an EMT and firefighter for the Hope Hose Humane Co.

CANADA NEWS

** Two Peterborough, Ontario paramedics are heading to Haiti to aid the earthquake ravaged nation. Mykawartha.com (Lauren Gilchrist/January 21) said Jeff Jordison and Troy Cheseboro will depart Wednesday for a week long trip during which they will work with the Ontario Volunteer Emergency Response Team (OVERT). According to the newspaper, the men will toil in Saint Marc, some two miles away from the capital. Manning a roving medical clinic and providing medical care for an orphanage will comprise their duties. In addition, the group will provide portable water units to area locals to help combat the current Cholera epidemic.
