** A Seminole, Texas paramedic, arrested on child porn possession charges, has now posted bail. That is the word from the Midland Reporter-Telegram (October 30) which said John Eric Gillam, 39, paid a $10,000 bond to secure his release from jail. Appearing in U.S. Magistrate Court Monday, Gillam is also charged with Internet transmission of child pornography. The latter carries a jail term of up to 20 years for convictions. Possession of the offensive material, meanwhile, could net another decade behind bars, as well as several hundred thousand dollars in fines. Indicted last Thursday by a federal grand jury, Gillam was arrested after a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

** A majority of ambulance workers toiling for the National Health Service (NHS) apparently dislike their jobs. That is the word from The Guardian (David Hencke/October 30) which said 4 out of 5 medics claim they have been abused by those they are seeking to aid. Compiled by Income Data Services, the information is part of an overall survey of 24,000 health care workers. According to the investigation, at least 3 out of 5 workers have considered quitting work. Ethnic minorities reported being harassed by both managers and patients, while most respondents cited low pay, biased job assessments, and being undervalued as other morale killers.
