** A former Newmarket paramedic has been sentenced to six weeks in the clink for making crank emergency calls. The Cambridge Evening News (September 25) said Kay Cousins, 45, who was fired from her job for behavioural infractions, apparently racked up over 100 false help hails to both police and EMS. According to the newspaper, a disgruntled Cousins also carried a knife into a public place and forced a speeding Newmarket train to stop by stepping into its path. In May, she also proceeded to nip at her own arm while standing in the middle of a traffic filled street. Describing Cousins as clearly disturbed, Judge David Goodin declined, however, to label her mentally ill. Due to time served, she is expected to be released immediately from jail.
