** New South Wales Ambulance Service inquiry announced

** South Australian allergy uniforms replaced with new issue

AUSTRALIA NEWS

** An increase in call volumes for the New South Wales Ambulance Service has apparently prompted a review. That, at least, is the word from ABC (September 19) which quoted Health Minister Reba Meagher as saying the scrutiny will examine how to improve EMS service delivery, at the same time as reducing both ER tie-ups and hospital admissions. Citing the aging population as one spark for the inquiry, Meagher said without change the next ten years could prove a challenge for prehospital services. Meagher said by examining future needs now, the organization could put appropriate resources in place in a timely fashion.

** New uniforms are starting to be donned by South Australian ambulance officers. ABC (September 19) said the clothing is replacing the previous issue which had sparked widespread allergic reactions amongst wearers. Blue in colour, the outfits are only temporary until the regular green shirts and pants arrive in December. In addition to changing uniforms, ambulance stations and equipment have been cleaned to eliminate cross contamination risks.
