** Calgary medic injured in MVA

** Queensland to audit its ambulance service

** A Calgary, Alberta medic suffered a serious head injury Sunday, after the unit he was riding in collided with a car. According to a press release put out by Calgary EMS (September 16), the 5:30 p.m. mishap occurred as the rig was transporting a medical patient to Peter Lougheed Hospital. Following the crash, the provider, 30, was taken to Foothills Hospital. A second ambulance was dispatched to care for the original patient. Police continue to investigate.

** Queensland’s new premier has ordered an audit of the state’s ambulance service. ABC (September 17) quoted Anna Bligh as making the decision following her first cabinet meeting. According to the news service, Bligh’s inquiry will focus on where funding is being spent. She said the look-see is intended to find out why paramedics remain under staffed, despite an increase in the Queensland Ambulance Service budget.
