** In an effort to fight privatized health care, an Ontario paramedic has decided to toss his hat into the political ring. The Osprey News Network (July 31) said St. Catherine’s resident Henry Bosch, 43, is seeking the New Democratic Party nomination in preparation for the October 10th provincial election. Two other people are also vying for the spot. A nomination meeting is expected to take place sometime this month.

** Chronic staffing shortages in South Australia have prompted the Liberal party to call for an immediate EMS recruitment campaign. The Advertiser (August 1) quoted Opposition health spokesman Vickie Chapman as saying the situation is crazy. Chapman noted that the majority of life threatening emergencies are not being reached by ambulance officers within the required seven minutes. Her comments come just one day after the ambulance union said it was considering industrial action over the matter.
