** A Jersey City Medical Center mechanic was killed Saturday, after the ambulance he was working on fell on him. The Jersey Journal (June 23) said Shokry Guirguis, 65, succumbed in the morning hours after fire department rescuers knocked down a wall to circumvent a locked garage. Discovered around 11 a.m., police say Guirguis may have been under the vehicle for as much as 45 minutes. The ambulance was not running, but was in park with the key in the ignition. Neither an emergency brake or wheel chocks had braced the unit.
CANADA NEWS
** A group of Edmonton based military medics is in Lithuania participating in a two week training exercise involving battlefield medicine. CNews (Sylvia Strojeck/June 23) said six members of the 1 Field Ambulance at Edmonton Garrison, all Afghan campaign veterans, are attached to a battalion from the United Kingdom. Medics will provide simulated care as well as refresher training in CPR and first aid. The military exercise, dubbed Amber Hope, is located on the Baltic Sea where 1,700 NATO troops from Canada, Germany, Poland, Finland and the US are taking part.
