** Nova Scotia medics aid Belize emergency care

** Paramedic volunteers from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia are among members of a medical team set to depart for Belize Saturday. The Chronicle Herald (John Gillis/June 14) said the group, which includes four paramedics, two doctors and two registered nurses, is working under the guise of Bandage International. Along with providing emergency care to residents in the Central American country, workers will also assist in instructing first aid and advanced techniques to other practitioners.

** A grand jury hearing is expected to be held shortly in the case of an Alabama EMT charged with raping a 12-year-old girl. The Press Register (Connie Baggett/June 14) said Toby Parrish, 33, who once managed the Eagles’ Wings air ambulance program, was arrested Tuesday. Parrish has been charged with first-degree rape and second-degree sodomy. He remains in jail pending the posting of $500,000 bail.
