** Los Angeles police investigating delayed EMS response to airport shooting
** Two Welsh paramedics struck off after falsifying run sheet for patient who later died
UNITED STATES NEWS
** Los Angeles police are investigating after the EMS response to a shot TSA agent at Los Angeles International Airport November 1st allegedly took some 33 minutes. That is the word from the Associated Press (Tami Abdollah/November 15) which said the delay may have resulted from an officer waving EMS off after telling them the man, Gerardo Hernandez, was already dead. That, at least, is the contention of the airport police union. Hernandez finally received care after another police officer detected a pulse, eventually bringing his body over to paramedics. Hernandez, however, later died.
UNITED KINGDOM NEWS
** A pair of Welsh Ambulance Service paramedics are out of a job after being struck off by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) for falsifying a run sheet for a patient who later died. Wales Online (November 19) said David Glover and Michael Davies were given the boot earlier this week after testimony showed the duo colluded to cover up an improper assessment of the female patient. According to the newspaper, neither medic checked the woman’s vital signs or inquired about her medical history. The woman, who suffered from diabetes and had had surgery for a brain tumor, was complaining of stomach pains and breathing problems. She died several hours later of adrenal insufficiency. A spokesman for the Welsh Ambulance Service acknowledged the HCPC decision, apologizing to the patient’s family for the failure.
