** A Bayonne, New Jersey EMT is dead after a fatal car crash Thursday. The Jersey Journal (Joseph R. Vena/December 13) said Michael Burke, 23, was off duty around 12:55 a.m. when the Jeep he was in hit an abutment on a nearby rail bridge. According to the newspaper, Burke, who had worked with McCabe Ambulance for two years, was ejected during the crash. He died at the scene. A passenger in Burke’s vehicle survived the impact, but was transported to hospital suffering head trauma, cerebral bleeding, and lower extremity injuries.

** A Livermore, California EMT is dead after a Thursday car accident saw his jeep hit from behind. KTVU (Amber Lee/December 13) said San Leandro Royal Ambulance medic Reed Whitaker died on Interstate 580. According to the news station, the driver of the Hummer that slammed into Whitaker’s vehicle may have been drunk at the time. Police said Primitivo Garcia smelled of alcohol and failed to pass a sobriety test administered at the scene. Whitaker had been with the ambulance service for three years.
