** Texas paramedic campaigning to shut off life support to brain dead pregnant wife
** California woman sentenced to jail for falsely hailing 911 paramedics 400 times
UNITED STATES NEWS
** A Texas paramedic, whose pregnant paramedic wife is brain dead, continues his drive to have her life support shut off. That is the word from the Daily Mail (Joshua Gardner/December 25)which said Fort Worth practitioner Erick Munoz has also enlisted his wife’s mother in his quest. According to the newspaper, Munoz’ wife Marlise, who is now 18 weeks pregnant, collapsed at home November 26. Despite the fact doctors say the baby is still viable, Munoz is campaigning to end both lives. Munoz and mother-in-law Lynne Machado told reporters they do not know whether the baby suffered any oxygen deprivation at the time of Marlise’s incident. They also said Marlise expressed previously that she did not want to live on life support. She did not, however, indicate her wishes should problems occur during her pregnancy. To date, doctors have declined any action. Texas law states that physicians must take all measures to preserve the life of the baby. When the child reaches 24 weeks gestation, a c-section could be done or the infant could be carried to 36 weeks or even full term. The couple also have a one-year-old son.
** A Los Angeles, California woman will spend 180 days in jail for making bogus 911 ambulance calls. NBC Los Angeles (Jonathan Lloyd/December 24) said Linette Young, 43, was convicted of making some 400 false help hails. According to the newspaper, she has been dialing emergency help for non-existent conditions since January 2011. Between January and September of this year, 220 such requests were made. Along with jail time, Young will also serve three years probation and must seek mandatory psyche counseling. She has also been ordered not to hail 911 unless it is an emergency.
