** Texas paramedic sentenced to 8 years in jail for driving deaths of pastor, wife

** A San Lorenzo, California man is dead after police shot him when he attacked attending paramedics and officers Monday. That is the word from the Associated Press (February 19) which said David Goins, 61, died at his home. According to the news service, medics were hailed late in the day to attend a seizure patient. Once on-scene, they were assaulted by Goins who then retreated into his house. The shots were fired after Goins allegedly hit a sheriff’s deputy with a baseball bat. Police Sgt. J.D. Nelson told reporters deputies had visited the home 19 times since 2011 for such problems as domestic violence and public drunkenness.
** An Austin, Texas paramedic, convicted of  intoxication manslaughter x 2 in the deaths of a pastor and his wife, has been sentenced to eight years in prison. The Associated Press (February 19) said Terri Elmore, 42, was given the sentence Tuesday. According to the newspaper, deputies put Elmore’s blood alcohol level following the November 2011 crash at .20;the legal limit is .08. Elmore maintained throughout the trial that she had no memory of the incident due to frequent fainting spells.
