** A female paramedic in Kirov has been fired after taking selfies with dying patients and posting them online. The Daily Mail (Sam Matthew/March 9) said Tatiana Kulikova, 25, apparently admitted taking the snaps while she was treating the patients in the ambulance. According to the newspaper, Kulikova tagged the photo subjects with derogatory comments and said how she hated her job. She also photographed herself making offensive hand gestures while posed in front of her charges. Local health campaigner Artem Golubev, 40, said the photos showed she was not providing adequate patient care when she was taking the photos. He also said it is possible the families could start legal action against the medic.

** An Alabama deputy EMS chief has been arrested for driving under the influence. The Alabama Media Group (Emily Hill/March 8) said Mobile resident Mark Hansberry, 50, was taken into custody Sunday around 3:41 a.m. According to the newspaper, Hansberry was released on bond several hours later. His next court date is March 23. As a 20 year veteran of Mobile Fire-Rescue, Hansberry is responsible for overseeing EMS quality assurance, paramedic training and recruiting, billing, and community complaints. He also looks after the paramedic cadet program.

** Colorado EMT escapes jail time on drug theft charges
UNITED STATES NEWS
** A Colorado EMT, caught on a hidden camera stealing a patient’s pain meds, has escaped jail time despite pleading guilty to the crime. That is the word from CBS 4 Denver (March 7) which said Brandon Long, 31, apparently took the drugs while his charge was being loaded into the ambulance. According to the news site, Long was fired from his job after the woman complained. He has been tasked with serving 50 hours community service and must write a letter of apology for his actions. The court also mandated his attendance at a class entitled “Making Better Choices”.
