** Colorado EMS, fire, and police personnel form procession to honor life of LODD air ambulance pilot
** Ohio man charged with assault after allegedly attacking medic following Narcan revival
UNITED STATES NEWS
** EMS and fire personnel in Colorado paid tribute Saturday to the air ambulance pilot killed two days before in a medevac crash by escorting his coffin to the funeral home. 9 News (Raquel Villanueva/July 4) said both ambulances and fire trucks convoyed in an honor guard around 5 a.m. on Interstate 70 near Denver. The remains of Patrick Mahany, 64, were carried under an American Flag. Mahany, a former Vietnam War chopper pilot, had worked for Flight-for-Life since 1987. The fatal Thursday flight was non medical in nature, but did carry both a flight paramedic and nurse. Both are in hospital, but expected to survive. According to the news service, the chopper went out of control shortly after take-off and spiraled into the ground near Frisco. The AS350 B3 has been in operation for under 12 months and had recently had a more powerful engine installed. Funeral services have not yet been set.
** An Ohio man has been charged with assault after allegedly attacking an EMS responder after the latter woke him from a drug overdose with Narcan. The Vindicator (July 6) said Austintown resident Joseph A. Moore, 30, is currently being held in jail without bond for the Sunday attack. According to the newspaper, Moore apparently hit the paramedic in the chest upon reviving around 5:30 p.m., pushing him backwards. He then attempted to run off with the practitioner’s medical bag, but was thwarted by the provider tackling him. Moore was arraigned yesterday. He has not yet entered a plea.
