** Sexual assault trial for Nova Scotia paramedic accused of attacking elderly female patient starts this month;trial date pending for other assaults

** A Nova Scotia paramedic, accused of sexually assaulting 5 female Halifax patients in his care, will next appear in court September 25th to set upcoming jury trial dates. That is the word from The Chronicle Herald (Steve Bruce/September 10) which said Kentville medic James Duncan Keats, 48, appeared in court last week at  a preliminary inquiry. According to the newspaper, Keats allegedly assaulted the women between December 2012 and April 2013. The women were between the ages of 24-64. Keats, who remains free on a recognizance and house arrest, also faces charges of sexually assaulting an elderly woman in the Annapolis Valley. He is set to go to trial in that case in Windsor Provincial Court on September 29th and October 3rd.
** An Ottawa, Ontario woman has been charged with assault after kicking a paramedic attempting to aid her Saturday. The Ottawa Sun (Doug Hempstead/September 13) said the incident took place outside an area bar around 12:30 a.m. after EMS was hailed to treat a fall related head injury. According to the newspaper, the drunken woman, who had been injured during a fight,  let her kicks fly as she was being loaded into the ambulance. She then lashed out again while in restraints at the hospital entrance. There is no word on whether or not the paramedics were injured in the attack.
