** South African truck driver hits, kills man at MVA scene, then steals ambulance

** An early Saturday morning ambulance/car accident has taken the life of a New Jersey EMT. KWTX 10 (July 26) said the 8 a.m. crash at an intersection in East Brunswick occurred as the ambulance was lit up and en route to an MVA call. According to the news site, a car struck the EMS rig as it passed through the intersection, forcing it onto its side. It then slid into another car. Piscataway resident Hinal Patel, 22, was in the ambulance’s passenger seat at the time of the collision. She died at the scene. Her partner and driver Mark Seube, 24, suffered non life threatening injuries, as did car driver Kathleen Meade, 58.

** A KwaZulu-Natal area truck driver has been arrested after allegedly hitting a person at an MVA scene and then making off with the attending ambulance Saturday. Eyewitness News (July 26) said the unidentified man struck and killed the tow truck driver who had been hailed to haul away debris from the first crash. According to ENCA (July 26), when paramedics rushed to attend the tow operator, the truck driver stole the EMS unit. He then hit a parked car after a pursuit by witnesses. There is no word on what charges are pending.
