** Virginia medic sentenced to jail time for driving death of woman

UNITED STATES NEWS

** A Virginia medic from Stafford County will spend the next year in jail after being convicted of causing the death of a woman after running a red light. The Free Lance Star (Keith Epps/August 6) said William V. Watson, 42, was handed a seven-year sentence for involuntary manslaughter earlier this week, with six years suspended. According to the newspaper, Watson was behind the wheel of the ambulance on September 17, 2018 when he hit the Nissan Quest being driven by Margaretta Ann Davis, 64. At one point prior to the main collision, he left the road entirely before running a red light and forcing Davis’ vehicle into a tree. She died at the scene. The ambulance also hit a second car, but no one was injured. Watson claimed the sun was in his eyes, making it difficult to navigate the road. Although lit up, his siren was not on while he traveled 65 mph in a 45mph zone. In addition to incarceration time, US Navy veteran Watson was also given a 12-month suspended jail sentence for reckless driving and was fined $100 for failing to obey a traffic light. He began serving his time Thursday.
