** Western Cape paramedics are contending with an upswing in violence directed against them, with one EMS unit being stoned and another crew robbed Sunday. That is the word from The Independent Online (Shakirah Thebus/January 21) which said the two separate incidents occurred around twelve hours apart. The stoning of the prehospital rig in Ravensmead, which took place at 4:40 a.m., resulted in a female paramedic suffering an eye injury when the windshield shattered. The 10:35 p.m. robbery, meanwhile, saw medics’ belongings stolen from them while they attended a patient in Atlantis. Western Cape health officials have condemned the attacks. Police continue to investigate. A public call for information on the assaults has also been issued.
