** Female New Zealand paramedic knocked unconscious during station burglary

NEW ZEALAND NEWS

** Warkworth police are on the hunt for a burglar who broke into an area ambulance station Sunday night, attacking a female medic and leaving her unconscious. Stuff.co.nz (Melanie Earley/January 13) said the 11 p.m. assault played out after the practitioner apparently startled the intruder when she returned from a call. According to the news site, the woman was able to hail police before crumpling. The assault has renewed calls for double crewing which would prevent lone medics from being vulnerable to such incidents. In the case of the Warkworth station, double crewing was expected to start in February. The female paramedic, meanwhile, was treated at North Shore hospital and was released earlier today. Ambulances at the station have been temporarily re-located while police investigate. A Crimestoppers alert has also been issued to glean information on the assailant’s whereabouts.
