** Bad weather possible reason for Alaska air ambulance crash

UNITED STATES NEWS

** New information is developing about a fatal Alaska air ambulance crash late last week, with two other medical transport companies saying they had declined calls in the same region that day due to inclement weather. That is the word from the Anchorage Daily News (Zaz Hollander/December 3) which said the Friday mishap, which claimed three lives, occurred on the Kenai Peninsula some 15 miles west of Quartz Creek Airport around 7:10 p.m. According to the newspaper, the twin-engine Piper PA-31 was headed for a patient pick-up at Providence Seward Medical Center. Killed in the mishap was Security Aviation pilot Glen Morthorpe who was also the company’s director of operations. Paramedic Maddox Burts, 35, and flight nurse Rob Cartner also perished. The bodies were recovered Sunday afternoon. Funeral services are pending.
