** Texas paramedic killed in motorcycle crash

** A Texas paramedic from Avery is dead after a Tuesday motorcycle crash. The Texarkana Gazette (October 10) identified the practitioner as Darren Wayne Cowley, 33. According to the newspaper, Cowley, who has worked for LifeNet since 2011, was killed around 12:10 p.m. after being struck by an F-350 towing a trailer. The truck driver apparently did not see Cowley as he tried to make a left turn into a private driveway. Cowley became a paramedic three years ago after first working as an EMT. He was also an instructor with the Texarkana College Paramedic Program. Remembered as a leader, he was also dubbed a compassionate man who was a good person. Funeral services are pending. Police continue to investigate.
