** Off-duty New South Wales medic from Australia attacked, beaten while doing charity bike ride

AUSTRALIA NEWS

** A New South Wales paramedic from Wollongong will need surgery after a weekend incident in which he was set upon a group of youths who then fractured his left eye socket. That is the word from Nine News (October 7) which said Daniel Mansbridge, 42, was attacked while off-duty and undertaking a charity bike ride to raise funds to fight children’s cancer. According to the news station, Mansbridge was passing over a bridge when the teens, aged 12-16, deliberately stepped into his path. One of the yobs knocked him from his bike, while another two began pummeling him about the face. None of the boys has been apprehended. Mansbridge said despite the beating, he intends to finish the ride because the Great Cycle Challenge is a worthy cause.
