** Welsh medic attacked on call, left unable to work

UNITED KINGDOM NEWS

** A Welsh Ambulance Service paramedic from West Cross has been left unable to return to work after an on-the-job scuffle with a Swansea patient last month left him with a badly broken scaphoid bone. Wales Online (Bethan Thomas/September 18) said Jon Johnston, 31, incurred the injury after being hailed to help an unconscious man lying face down in the street. According to the newspaper, the break occurred as the patient suddenly revived, forcefully pulling him to the ground. Johnston continued to render care, however, discovering the extent of his own injury once at the hospital. The service reported the attack to police who continue to investigate. Between April and June of 2019, 20 arrests have been made for violence directed against medics during calls.
