** Ottawa and five other Ontario municipalities get provincial funding for first responders dealing with catastrophes

** The City of Ottawa, as well as five other municipalities in Ontario, will soon have funding to support the establishment of Urban Search and Rescue, Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosive, and Hazmat teams. That is the word from OttawaMatters.com (Mike Vlasveld/August 7) which said the city will share $2.5 million in provincial funding with North Bay, Peterborough, Thunder Bay, Toronto, and Windsor. According to the newspaper, the money will help 10 specialized teams to assist in scenarios including collapsed structures and medical treatment to survivors of catastrophes causing widespread damage.
