** New York signs law exempting EMS and fire personnel from vehicular damage liability while rescuing trapped pets from cars

UNITED STATES NEWS

** New York EMTs, paramedics, and firefighters who break a vehicle window to gain access to a pet trapped in hot or cold weather are no longer liable for any damages caused to the car. That is the word from NBC New York (July 31) which said Governor Andrew Cuomo signed a bill to that effect Wednesday. According to the news site, previous protections extended only to police officers. Animal rights activists praised the law, saying it would allow distressed pets to be rescued sooner.
