** Police in West Yorkshire have issued a public alert for more information after a flight medic’s helmet was stolen from inside an air ambulance after the chopper landed to attend to a call. The Yorkshire Evening Post (Abbey Maclure/August 9) said the theft, which happened Thursday night, was likely pulled off by a group of Shipley youths. According to the newspaper, the specialized helmets cost 2,700 pounds each because they contain both communication and protective equipment. The helmet was eventually recovered, but was too damaged to be repaired. A spokesman for Yorkshire Air Ambulance said because the service relies on charitable donations to operate, the vandalized helmet is not easy to replace. There is no word on whether or not any arrests have been made in relation to the incident.
