** Ontario freezes EMS funding

CANADA NEWS

** Funding for provincial ambulance services in Ontario will apparently be frozen. That is the word from The Ottawa Citizen (Jon Willing/May 9) which quoted a spokesman for Ontario Health Minister Christine Elliott as saying the move is intended to improve existing prehospital care options by exploring alternatives. Hayley Chazan said the government is intent on ensuring patients who might unnecessarily be clogging emergency rooms receive care at appropriate facilities. In 2017, municipalities across the province received a 5.8 per cent top up in land ambulance funding, while the number for 2018 was 5.3 per cent.
