** Iowa medic charged after falling asleep at wheel, causing ambulance crash

** An Iowa medic from the Cherokee is facing charges after he allegedly caused an ambulance crash by falling asleep behind the wheel March 27th. That is the word from The Storm Lake Pilot Tribune (April 5) which said the unidentified medic will be tagged with Failure to Maintain Control in the crash near Ames. According to the newspaper, the ambulance left Interstate 35, crashed into a ditch and hit a sign after the practitioner nodded off. The EMS unit was on a patient transport from Cherokee to Ottumwa at the time. Both on-board paramedics suffered only minor injuries in the mishap.
