** A Colorado EMS crew responding to a shooting call Monday in Colorado Springs ended up being targets themselves after the gunman fired on them. That is the word from CBS News (August 1) which said the late night incident played out with police having to cordon off the area of the call due to the active shooter situation. According to the news service, medics were attending on two victims with non life threatening injuries when shots rang out. No responders were injured. Early Tuesday, the police said the matter had resolved. Two deceased adults were found inside a nearby residence. A homicide investigation is now underway.
** A Maine EMT from Baldwin is dead after sustaining a gunshot wound to the chest while target shooting with friends. WMTW (Jim Keithley/August 1) said Chance Gallant, 20, who worked EMS in Sebago, died Sunday afternoon after a rifle jammed and then misfired. Gallant died at the scene. Sebago Deputy Chief Jason Schoolcraft said Gallant was a generous person who was well liked by everyone. Maine State Police continue to investigate. Police said preliminary findings, however, indicate no foul play.
