** Female Massachusetts firefighter, accused of murdering lesbian paramedic lover, says relationship between two women was contentious

UNITED STATES NEWS

** Trial proceedings against a female Massachusetts firefighter, accused of strangling to death her lesbian paramedic lover, continued this week, with witnesses saying divorce talk was mentioned prior to the homicide. That is the word from The Republic (Buff Spencer/September 15) which said Cara Rintala, who is currently on trial, claimed Annemarie Cochrane Rintala ran up debts on the former’s credit card and had removed money from Cara’s retirement account. Further testimony from three witnesses who were coworkers said they were baffled when arriving at the murder scene to find paint scattered about near the body. Prosecutors contend the paint was intended to contaminate the crime scene where Cochrane Rintala’s remains were found March 29, 2010. At that time, she was already in a state of rigor mortis. This is the third time Rintala has gone to trial in the case. Two previous trials ended in a hung jury.
