** UK man gets jail time for using scythe to threaten female paramedic

UNITED KINGDOM NEWS

** A Stoke Lacy man will serve seven months in jail after wielding a scythe at a female paramedic called to help him. The Hereford Times (Ben Goddard/June 1) said Robert Butler, 32, allegedly brandished the weapon after hailing EMS for what he said were “fits” and chest pain. Once on-scene, the female paramedic said Butler initially failed to answer the door, only opening it at the dispatch centre’s behest. When he finally alighted from the residence, he was waving the blade menacingly in front of the medic who retreated from the scene. Butler’s lawyer said he was drunk and unsocial at the time due to his mother’s recent death. Court heard, however, that he had 42 previous convictions for such offences as drunkenness, battery, criminal damage, and assaulting a police officer.
