** Two Ontario medics recognized for bravery

** Welsh Ambulance Service makes response time gains

** Medic fired after posting Internet photos

CANADA NEWS

** Two Ontario paramedics will be awarded bravery medals from Governor General Michaelle Jean June 15. The Durham Region News (Keith Gilligan/May 25) said the duo is being recognized for the October 29, 2005 rescue of a suicidal woman from a burning home. Murray Martin and Rob Johnstone join 13 other Canadians being honoured. Martin, who suffered a collapsed lung and nearly died as a result of the incident, remains off the job. Two police officers who responded to the scene are also being given the nod.

UNITED KINGDOM NEWS

** Welsh Ambulance Service head Alan Murray is touting an early success when it comes to EMS response times. This is Wales (Madeleine Brindley/May 30) quoted Murray as saying medics responded to 66.3 per cent of life threatening calls within 8 minutes in April. The stat is marginally better than the 63.03 per cent of calls tended to in March. Murray credited modernization initiatives for the improvement. In 2006, the Welsh Ambulance Service was singled out for having Britain’s worst prehospital response times.

UNITED STATES NEWS

** A Kentucky paramedic, who posted cell phone photos of a car accident victim on the Internet, has been fired. Lex 18 (AP/May 30) said Clinton-Hickman County Ambulance worker John Snow was turfed Tuesday night. Snow’s conviction comes just one day after the 16-year-old car crash victim’s family allegedly assaulted him.
