** British Columbia police have arrested a man for sexually assaulting a female paramedic. The Nanaimo News Bulletin (Monisha Martins/May 12) said the incident occurred in Maple Ridge last Thursday. According to police, Ryan Glen Ziegler, 30, is a convicted sex offender. He allegedly attacked the medic while she attempted to treat him in a hospital parking lot. Ziegler is expected back in court next Tuesday.
** The Paramedic Association of Manitoba is lobbying the province’s political parties to participate in improving EMS. According to a press release put out by the organization (May 14), the group released a white paper on the subject last week. Among the recommendations PAM is making is a request to increase operational funding. In addition, the tome said paramedics should be recognized as health professionals and educated in a post-secondary health sciences faculty. The organization is also pushing for self-regulation and improved credentialing.
